Well said Steve. I agree that many people don’t deal with complications well.

When it comes to interacting with the wonderful complexity of our universe, Christians have a rich tradition on which to draw. Two examples from the last few centuries:

“A Slice of Infinity” is a masterful essay by F. W. Boreham (preacher, 1871-1959).* In it he urges us all to sample widely from the well of truth, to be interested in learning and life, to step out of our mental comfort zone.

Isaac Watts (hymnwriter, 1674-1748): “[Do not] canton out to [yourself] a little province in the intellectual world where you fancy the light shines; and all the rest is in darkness.” (The Improvement of the Mind, 2005 Adamant edition, p. 78)

* The essay is in the collection “Mushrooms on the Moor”, available at good online bookstores.
